Sarah's Party

I have found that planning a girls sleep over is a bad idea because if I send out invitations in advance 27 girls show up even if I only send out 12 invitations. If I tell Sarah on Wednesday that she can have some friends sleep over on Friday then only 2 friends and a few cousins show up.

We don't have a picture of Sarah blowing out the candle because just as she was about to Tanner poked her cheek and we were all laughing too hard.

They ate a ton of junk food and I think they were sick afterwards but isn't that what's supposed to happen at sleep overs? Every year I end up with colored soda stains on the carpet so this year I bought all the kids an insulated cup with a lid and straw and somehow we still ended up with more spills and stains this year than we ever did before.

She got all her favorite things, clothes, jewelry, sparkly nerd glasses, cosmetics and bath products, craft supplies and a gift card to go shopping.

After presents they had these cute little cookies and donuts for breakfast. They were very disappointed with the cookies, they smelled good but tasted terrible and most of the kids threw them away. I guess that's what happens when you buy prepackaged cookie pops.

They sang karaoke while waiting for their parents. After about 20 minutes we had to turn the microphone off because for some reason when you hand a mic to the girls they get really loud and squeaky, even the girls that know how to sing and sing well.

I think after a few minutes they decided karaoke wasn't all they expected it to be. I am glad I borrowed a karaoke machine instead buying the very expensive model Sarah had asked for after all.

Sarah's Hair

Sarah has been asking me for years to color her hair cool aide red but I wouldn't ever agree to it, mostly because I was afraid Oscar would kick my butt and also because funky color hair is against school dress code. When she decided to  donate her hair to Locks of Love again I decided I would reward her by cool aide dying her hair for school break since it's only temporary.  It was disastrous and made a huge mess. I was supposed to leave it on her hair for 24 hours but after about 20 minutes I sent her to the shower to wash it out and called a friend to permanently color it for her. It was very cute with just a little burgundy. Ever since then we have been in a never ending cycle of cutting and coloring her hair. Every 6 weeks or so we color it again and it's usually a shade of red but sometimes brown and she still asks several times a week if we can try a new color  but burgundy is as wild as I will agree to. I do once a month I let her spray her hair with pink hairspray for the weekend because it washes right out.

When it started to grow out a little she wanted to try flipping out but the hairdryer and curling iron give her anxiety so we only did that a few times.

After that she wanted to try coloring at home but when we did the color didn't take real well in the back so I had to give her a swing bob haircut.

As it grew out a little more she decided she wanted to cut and color it like Gramma Cedes. This is my favorite but Oscar doesn't like it because he thinks it makes her look older.

At the moment she's sporting an auburn bob but she has recently found cool aide red semi-permanent hair color at the dollar store and made me buy it. She said carrot orange is not the color she wants to be expelled for but she is willing to risk it for the chance to have the color she dreams of. Let's hope this goes better than last time.

Thanksgiving Pies

For Thanksgiving Sarah, Zander, Cherilyn and Levi wanted to make homemade pies. They did good and all the adults liked them but the kids didn't, they said they tasted funny. I also forgot to take a picture of the completed pumpkin pie but it takes longer to bake so as soon as it came out of the oven the kids attacked it.

Sarah's tiny snowmen

Sarah was sick and had a fever the day that it snowed so I told her she couldn't go outside, she was devastated. Later that day I came downstairs to find her halfway out the back door building little snowmen. In defense she said she didn't actually go outside, stinkin terd! Since she was already halfway out the door I caved and let her go out for about 20 minutes.

That Darn Computer

I have the worst luck with things that plug in, especially appliances and computers, I kill them all! in the past year I had to replace the cord to the computer and the battery pack twice and then the darn thing got really, really hot one day and wouldn't shutdown or turn off so I unplugged it and let the battery die, after that it wouldn't turn on again. I have been without a computer for almost a year now and it has been a huge pain!! I have a Blackberry phone so I have been able to Facebook and email but I can't blog from my phone and it is really annoying but Tanner got a computer for Christmas from his dad so I have decided to occasionally borrow it while he is at school and catch up on the blog. Hopefully the kids remember everything that happened in the last year because I don't, it was a very busy year.
